Opensource it!

If you look to the right you can see a screenshot of an XP virtual machine on my Linux desktop. Pretty handy for running MS apps without having to leave Linux. Also good for some covert operations. Anyway, check out this vid of MS seamless on one side of the compiz cube and the howto link. Linux is teh |\/|4g!c47.

Dell and Linux

Opensource it!

Not necessarily new news but, news nonetheless. Linux installed out of the box is great news for folks too intimidated to deal with installation. It took me a couple of days to set up proper sound, video and CDMA internet on my Toshiba Sat laptop. But that's the fun part for me.

Opensource "Project Genome"

I dedicate my life to spreading opensource philosophy. For now I'm promoting it by spreading the word about Linux and other opensource projects like Mozilla's Firefox.

In the works is "Project Genome." Genome is a social networking project starting with a free internet lounge where people can come to learn the benefits of opensource via workshops and projects. We'll put our brains together to rediscover the internet and it's benefits. Eventually there will be expos and tournaments with prizes, live entertainment and concession. Also, promotion of the local arts and businesses with shows, galleries and business meeting space.

It's an ambitious project and it's gonna happen. Anyone interested in helping bring this concept to life feel free to let me know. Any one from the Linux and opensource community interested, your support is especially important.

Through this project I mean to help rediscover the internet as a resource, put the "unity" back in community and spread the word of opensource.

What do you know about Linux?

I guess a more appropriate question is what do you know about that other OS, Windows. Missing drivers? RAM hog? Hows the support? Rules? Registrations? Crashes? Restarts? Blue screens of death? The list goes on I suppose.

Well, if you're like the majority of MS users out there than you know Windows for what it is. Garbage. Are you tired of Windows? Is it to your benefit to find something better? Or are you just in need of revelation. That's exactly what I'm here for.

I've decided to dedicate my life to promoting the use of opensource software, especially Linux. Linux is an opensource operating system kernel with many flavors. I use Ubuntu so that's what Ill talk about. Why would you want to use Ubuntu considering all of the time and money spent getting used to Windows, you say? I know learning a new OS can be intimidating but you have nothing to worry about. Ubuntu as well as other Linux distros come with a world of free support. It's extremely easy to use, and most of the software you could ever need is FREE! It only took me a couple of days to get used to. A couple of days might seem like much for some but, let me ask you this. How much time do you think you've lost because of system crashes and reboot? How about finding that software you need at the local computer shop not to mention installation and tech support. With Ubuntu all the software you need can be found on the internet via repositories and there's no searching the vast network of the web. It's all easily within reach via a provided software manager. It couldn't be easier. Especially compared to Windows. I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I still use Windows, rarely. You can dual boot Ubuntu (easily) and continue to run Windows. And to make things better, you can even run Ubuntu directly from the CD without installing anything just to try it out. Did I mention it's free? Linux is worlds ahead of Windows. Just give it a try. It just makes sense. Which flavor of Linux is best for you?

Keep in mind that I don't claim to be a Linux pro, however, if you live in the Sacramento area and want to give it a try but are intimidated I'd be more than happy to stop by to install and show you how to use it, for free. Trust me, you have nothing to lose except the headaches from Windows.
